The WIS Parent Network (WPN) is Successfully Launched!

Congratulations to the inaugural WPN Management Committee for their election and launch of this vital tool for promoting community and learning here at WIS! Mikaela Baker, Pravesh Singh, Janine Desalaers, and Birga Kalomoh will be reaching out shortly with new information about how to get involved. In line with the WPN Charter, the purpose of the WPN is “to foster a strong relationship among the parents, the school administration, and the faculty members of WIS in order to provide the best possible educational environment for the students, and to provide a space for parents to relate, connect and organize. The WPN is a non-profit, non-partisan, and non-sectarian organization.”

A note on the use of WhatsApp at WIS:

1. WIS WhatsApp Groups

To ensure continuity from year to year, there will be only one WhatsApp group per grade level and these will be administered by the Grade Level Reps and any designees as deemed appropriate. The current WhatsApp groups are linked here. Note that we are still seeking Grade Level Parent Reps for Grades 10, 11, and 12. If you are interested, please email parentnetwork@wis.edu.na with your name, child’s name, and grade level. The purpose of these groups are for parents to build community and share social events and planning. It can also be a forum for parents to gain information about upcoming events, share all-grade birthday party invites, and plan for learning celebrations. It is not a forum for complaints (these should be shared directly with the teachers or those closest to the concern itself). The school’s official means of communication remains SeeSaw for Primary and ManageBac for Secondary.

2. WIS WhatsApp Community

Each of these groups have been joined to the WIS WhatsApp Community. For FAQs about how WhatsApp Communities work, click here.

In terms of privacy, it will be helpful to note that the “WIS Community” group members are able to message and see one another’s names and numbers.
