SALARY AND CREDIT SCALE

 

All teachers are placed on a single scale according to years of experience. In addition, they are awarded “Credits” in recognition of specific experiences that will enrich and add value to the school.

 

1. The Scale

There is one scale for all teachers whether hired locally or internationally and regardless of academic qualifications.  

The scale is reviewed annually by the Board.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2. The Credits

The value of a Credit is determined by the Board and is

reviewed annually.  The value of a Credit has been set at N$4,500.

 

ONE (1) CREDIT PER YEAR OR EVENT

(There is no limit to the number of Credits that may be earned)

  • One academic year of teaching the IBPYP in an authorised school other than WIS

  • One academic year of teaching IGCSE in an authorised school other than WIS

  • One academic year of teaching the IBDP in an authorised school other than WIS

  • Delivering a workshop at an authorised (1) event

  • Serving as a member of a PYP School Verification or Evaluation team

  • Serving as a team member on a DP authorisation visit

  • One academic year as an IBDP examiner

  • Serving as a member of an Accreditation Team (2) visiting another school

  • Coordinating a whole school self-study prior to an accreditation (2) visit

  • Completing six years of full-time employment at WIS

  • Qualifying as a Google Certified Trainer

  • Qualifying as a Google Certified Coach

  • Qualifying as a Google Innovator
     

ONE (1) CREDIT

(Maximum 1 Credit per item)

  • Serving for at least one year as a voting member of the Board of an international school (including WIS)

  • Having authored and published in a peer-reviewed journal at least one article in a relevant field (education, internationalism, etc.)

  • Having previously been a PYP, IGCSE or DP Coordinator (at WIS or elsewhere)
     

ONE AND A HALF (1.5) CREDITS PER YEAR OR EVENT

(There is no limit to the number of Credits that may be earned)

  • One academic year of teaching internationally (3)

  • Leading a PYP School Evaluation visit

  • Leading an Accreditation Team (2) visit

  • Authoring and publishing a textbook (or comparable educational material)

 

HALF A CREDIT (0.5) CREDIT PER YEAR OR EVENT

(There is no limit to the number of Credits that may be earned)

  • One academic year of teaching the IBPYP at WIS

  • One academic year of teaching IGCSE at WIS

  • One academic year of teaching the IBDP at WIS

  • One academic year as an IBMYP examiner

  • One academic year of teaching a recognised international educational programme not currently offered by WIS (such as the MYP, IPC, IMYC)

  • Qualifying as a Google Certified Educator Level 1 (must be renewed every three years).

  • Qualifying as a Google Certified Educator Level 2 (must be renewed every three years).

 

TWO (2) CREDITS

  • (The option to award two credits for an experience or qualification is retained.)
     

(1) Authorised by the IB, AISA, or a comparable organisation at the Director’s discretion.

(2) CIS, NEASC, MSA, SACS, WASC or any other recognised accreditation agency at the Director’s discretion.

(3) Defined as outside the teacher’s home country and culture and in a recognised school or institution.

 

All salaries are paid in Namibian Dollars.  The salaries quoted are gross. The rate of tax depends on individual circumstances but is usually around 25 to 28%.
 

3. Benefits

 

Locally-hired staff

Pension

An amount equal to 10% of the basic annual salary (i.e. Salary Scale Step plus Credits) is paid by the school in full (100%) into a recognised pension fund of your choice.  No deductions are made from employee salaries.

 

Medical Aid

Membership of Windhoek International School Medical Aid Scheme administered by NMC. The employer pays the full monthly premium/contribution (100%) for the Ruby option.

 

A maximum of three (3) dependants may be registered under this scheme. Further dependants are registered at the expense of the employee.
 

Overseas-hired staff

Pension

Allowances

  • Housing

Up to N$100,000 per annum for a single employee.

Up to N$150,000 per annum for a teaching couple.

Up to N$10,000 per annum for each dependant of the employee(s).

 

Please note that Housing Allowance may not exceed the actual amount of rent paid.

Please also note that under Namibian law 1/3 of the Housing allowance is tax-free but 2/3 is taxable.

  • Overseas Living Allowance (OLA)

N$35,000 per annum (taxable).  It is paid monthly as part of your salary.

 

  • Home Leave

Economy airfares from and to your home of record at the beginning and end of every two-year contract for the employee(s) and dependants.

 

  • Relocation

Economy airfares from and to your home of record at the start and conclusion of employment at WIS for the employee(s) and dependants.

 

  • Settling-in & Baggage

Upon arrival, you will receive an amount of N$ 50,000 (plus an additional N$ 10,000 for each dependant up to a maximum of four dependants) to assist you with your settling-in, baggage, and furniture expenses. You are required to provide the Finance Office with supporting vouchers for all amounts spent in this regard. By the end of the first semester following your arrival, the reconciliation with the Finance Office must be finalized. Money not spent must be returned to the Finance Office. All expenses incurred have to be supported by vouchers and submitted to the Finance Office for audit purposes. 

 

The allowance is not transferable to any other allowance or your base salary, and if not utilized under the contract terms, is no longer applicable.

 

  • Accommodation

The School will pay for up to fourteen nights’ accommodation for the employee(s) and their dependants to allow time for the employee(s) to secure adequate accommodation.

 

This benefit may not be taken in cash, is not transferable to any other allowance or your base salary, and if not utilized under the contract terms, is no longer applicable.
