CHILD PROTECTION, SAFETY, & WHISTLEBLOWING

As a school community, Windhoek International School (WIS) is committed to the welfare of all our students. We have policies and procedures in place which are designed to protect our students from all forms of violence, abuse, neglect, and exploitation. WIS is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and is a member of the Global Safeguarding Collaborative (GSC). The school is committed to every child's safety and well-being. 

Statement of Commitment:

'WIS is dedicated to creating a safe environment for all children in our care. We believe in the right of all children to be protected from all forms of violence, abuse, neglect, and exploitation, as set out in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and in keeping with the Namibian Child Care and Protection Act of 2015.'   WIS Child Protection Policy

 

WIS conducts rigorous background checks and criminal record checks for all teaching and non-teaching positions where adults are working with students on campus. Our recruitment process is informed by best practices identified by the GSC, and all staff, students, coaches, and volunteers are trained and sign their respective WIS Code of Conduct. 

By enrolling your children at Windhoek International School, you are agreeing to work in partnership with WIS, abiding by all policies adopted by the WIS Board of Directors. For further details, please reference the WIS Child Protection Policy and Protocols below. 

Reporting Protocols:

Safeguarding: If you have a safeguarding or child protection concerns, please contact the Ms Bianca Salamon the Designated Safeguarding Lead at safeguarding@wis.edu.na 

Safety: If you have a concern regarding the safety and security of the WIS Campus, please contact Ms Susan Mawire the Designated Health & Safety Officer at healthandsafety@wis.edu.na 

Whistleblowing: If you believe that there is an adult at WIS who is engaged in past, present, or imminent wrongdoing, then please refer to the Whistleblowing Policy and contact our Whistleblowing Officer Ms Lagia Shifotoka at whistleblowing@wis.edu.na
