What would you like us to know about you?
I have been a teacher since 2011. I have taught in Lisbon, Portugal and in Luanda, Angola. I have a daughter who is 21 and is presently in Portugal. I love living in Africa, and I equally enjoy visiting Portugal. I have studied in Braga and conducted my further studies in Lisbon.
Could you tell us a little about your philosophy of education?
I believe that all students have the skills and ability to learn, so it is the teacher’s responsibility to give students encouragement and support so that they can experience success. Many students have special learning needs, and we must not forget them when we are teaching. When we learn a new language, we must take risks and we must begin thinking in the target language.
What do you do when you aren’t teaching?
I enjoy sports, travel, and the cinema. I enjoy reading books. I look forward to jogging and exploring around Namibia.
What do you look forward to, as a teacher for the Camões Institute and Windhoek International School?
My Portuguese language ability is stronger than my English, so I am looking forward to stretching myself by working in an English medium school and with students from many different nationalities and backgrounds.
Is there anything else you’d like us to know about you?
Traveling to new cultures and places is an excellent way to be a human in this world. I enjoy Portuguese food, and I welcome you to stop by and have a conversation with me about food and all the best aspects of Portuguese culture. I also like to learn about new cultures; sharing language and food is a great way to get to know new people. It’s possible to read about our world’s diversity in the book, but it is something far better to experience it.
