WIS Interact Club Makes a Difference Through Soup Kitchen Outreach

Rotary International is a world wide service organization that can be found all over the globe. Its youth branch, Interact Club, is targeted towards students between the ages of 12 and 18; it aims to help them gain an international understanding of global issues while allowing them to take initiative and improve their leadership skills. There are over 20,000 Interact Clubs around the world and one of these is our very own: the Interact Club of Windhoek International School! This club is student run with the current President and Vice President being Anika and Yizhou who are both Grade 10 students at WIS. The motto of our club is “Service Above Self” embodying what we hope to bring more of in our community.

As a way to start up the club we went and collaborated with the Interact Club of DHPS at a Soup Kitchen event in Katutura. While there, we hoped to create an entertaining, stimulating, and interactive environment for the children. We helped by reading to them, dancing with them, and playing with them. Subsequently, we also assisted in the duties of dishes, cooking, and cleaning afterwards.

The Interact Club is an amazing learning experience for everybody who joins, as it offers valuable involvement with volunteering, community support, and service. We are excited to start up our own projects in the near future and hope to get the club off the ground as soon as possible. If you would like to reach out to us you can email us at wisinteract@wis.edu.na.
