On Saturday, May 10th, Windhoek International School hosted a vibrant Car Boot Sale that brought together students, WIS families, and the wider Windhoek community. The event was more than just a marketplace, it was a living expression of the IB learner profile attribute Caring, as our students took meaningful action to support causes beyond themselves.
Primary students Tara, Siddharta, and North exemplified empathy and social responsibility by running a lemonade stand and donating all their proceeds to Back to School Namibia, a local charity committed to helping children access education. Their act of kindness showed a deep understanding of how even small actions can make a big difference.
Similarly, Grade 11 students Kazuki, Klaudia, and Melissa demonstrated initiative and compassion through their homemade baked goods stall. All funds raised were donated to Elephant-Human Relations Aid (EHRA), a Namibian organisation that works to protect elephants and support peaceful living between people and wildlife. In addition to raising both funds and awareness for this important cause, these students also played an important role in helping to organise the Car Boot Sale itself, showing leadership, teamwork, and a strong sense of community responsibility.
This event showed how our students live the IB values by showing empathy, respect, and a willingness to help others. By giving their time and effort to support good causes, they showed that being Caring means more than being kind at school, it also means taking action to help others in the world around us.
We are truly thankful to everyone who took part and supported the event. You helped make it a wonderful day of connection and community.
