Emilia Sindila also graduated from WIS in 2018 and then moved to the UK for her studies.
I was a WIS student for all my schooling years, which was great as I enjoyed the teaching methods and styles, especially during IGCSE. During the IB Diploma I struggled to find subjects to study as I was not sure what I wanted to study further at university. I became interested in Environmental Sciences together with the three-core sciences, mathematics and the impact humans have on the planet. I enrolled to study Environmental Sciences at the University of Northampton in England. After my first year I applied at the University of Portsmouth to continue studying Environmental Sciences. I will be graduating in the summer (July 2022) with a BSc in Environmental Science (Hons). I have enrolled to study for another four years, MSc + PhD Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, with the application in environmental risk as I would like to go into the direction of being a researcher in climate change, energy systems or waste management.
Learning at WIS and being surrounded by people from different cultures and backgrounds allowed me to be open-minded from a young age. Doing the IB Diploma gave me an advantage at university. I already understood Mathematics and Science I needed for my degree, so I was not under pressure to learn everything and could focus on the subjects I did not have much knowledge in. The IB Diploma course also taught me time management, consistency and self-discipline, which are useful skills to have at university, especially in the final year when writing a dissertation. Looking back and reflecting on my experience in the IB Diploma course, I would not change it for anything. I might study a bit more, however. I made up for this at university - studying has been easy for me at university.
