Next week, we will unveil the time capsule that was buried in 2013. It is at the WIS auditorium and has patiently waited to be unveiled now in December 2023. Can you imagine what was placed there 10 years ago?
We will reveal this to our community next Friday and you can be part of this!
During the day on Friday, you can all have a look at the location. At 11:00 a group of alumni from 2013 will open the time capsules and everyone who is interested to see what was in there is welcome to pass by and have a look.
We will also be hosting a writing competition for students in Grades 3 - 12. You can write your thoughts to one of the prompts below. Submit it on Friday the 8th in the morning BEFORE the capsule is opened and we will choose a winner whose essay will be put in the new time capsule that we will bury at the end of this academic year 2023-2024.
Here are the prompts for your perusal: (thank you to our Librarian, Ms. Jeannette for these creative and thought provoking ideas!).
Following the writing strategies that you have learnt in the past months will be an advantage to your essay.
1. Predictions and Hopes:
- Envision what you hope to find in the time capsule. What items or messages do you think your peers from the past wanted to share with you? Write about your expectations and any surprises you anticipate.
2. Guess the Trends:
- Guess the popular trends and fads that might have been significant when the time capsule was created. Consider fashion, technology, and entertainment. How do you think these trends have changed or evolved?
3. Current Events and Headlines:
- Speculate on what major events, news, or cultural shifts might have occurred since the time capsule was sealed. Consider global and local events that could have left a lasting impact.
4. School and Classroom Insights:
- Share your thoughts on what school life was like when the time capsule was created. How have teaching methods, technology in the classroom, and school activities changed or remained the same?
And we have another surprise. We found a time capsule in our school safe that was deposited there in 2009. It was meant to be opened in 2019, but we did not do that then. So we will also open that time capsule and display its content with the one from 2013. It will be interesting to see what different items these two year’s capsules entail.
