A Warm Welcome to the New School Year

Dear WIS Primary School Community,

As we begin another exciting year of learning and growth at Windhoek International School, I am excited to welcome you all back.  Our teachers have already been back at school for nearly two weeks, preparing for the year ahead. One thing we did during our staff work week was to focus on enhancing our teaching practices. One of the key strategies we explored is the 'Daily Review' method. This approach, which involves short, focused sessions at the beginning of lessons to reinforce previous learning, has shown significant positive impacts on student performance, particularly in Mathematics.

I'm proud to share that many of our teachers have already begun implementing this strategy in their classrooms, reflecting their commitment to their professional growth and your children's learning.  Here are some pictures of the Daily Review in action when I did my campus walk this morning:

As a PYP inquiry-based school, we believe in balancing various educational approaches. While inquiry remains at the core of our philosophy, we recognize the value of strategies like recall and memorization in building a strong foundation for deeper learning. The 'Daily Review' is an excellent example of how we're integrating evidence-based practices to complement our inquiry-based approach. If you would like to learn more about this approach please see the video below:
