This past week we had two well-attended and positive parent evenings. In the spirit of our WIS Principles - People, Purpose, Excellence, and Ownership and in line with various IB Learner Profile Attributes - being open-minded, being caring, being reflective, being communicators, and being knowledgeable, we were able to share our school procedures as well as answer questions and get to know each other during these events.
There are so many facets of raising children and one person, one family, one teacher, one school can not do that in isolation. When we work together and have the same goals for what we want our children to grow into, we can be able to educate young people to be compassionate, caring and engaged human beings who take responsibility for themselves, and their environment and eventually have an impact in making our planet a better place to live on.
I want to thank all parents who attended, and who brought some delicious snacks and a special word of thanks to our homeroom teachers, Mr. Jako, Mr. Bryant, Ms. Kate, Ms Ruth (who is also the Middle School Student Life Coordinator), Ms. Sharon and Mr. JP for being there on those evenings. Parents and teachers showing their support for what we do as a school strengthens our community and helps us to live and realise our mission and vision:
OUR VISION We aspire to be a World-Class International School that provides an internationally accredited curriculum, high-quality facilities, and a diverse staff to prepare independent, inquiring and self-motivated citizens of the world. MISSION STATEMENT To develop the full potential of each student in a stimulating environment of academic excellence, cultural diversity and active social responsibility to become internationally-minded independent thinkers. |
We will continue to create opportunities for communication and collaboration with our parents to ensure that the young people in our care get the best possible opportunities to make a difference in their societies and in the world they live in.
HERE is the presentation we used on both evenings. I recommend that you take a special look at the last two slides with some reading suggestions for parents to guide through these years of constant change and challenges and make this time valuable and positive for our children so that they can thrive in their environment. Thank you Ms. Deselaers and Ms. Baker from the WIS Parent Network (WPN) for helping us compile these reading lists. We also want to appreciate the WPNs contribution to making these evenings a success by information and reminding and engaging in the community and the process.
Respectfully,
Maggie Reiff
Secondary Principal
