The start of a new year, a new semester and exams for our Grade 10s and 12s

As we start this new semester, we want to recognize what a new beginning can mean for us. Starting a new year always gives us new beginnings and new hope, as well as challenges that we face and want to become comfortable with.

Our Grade 10 and 12 classes are starting a new challenge with the mock exams that they have already started (Grade 12) and will be starting soon (Grade 10). These exams are an opportunity to show where each of our students are in their different subjects, but they are also an opportunity to give feedback on what still needs to be done in the preparation for the final examination in May. They are a great way to reflect and at the same time, “keep our faces towards the sunshine so that the shadows will fall behind us.” Looking ahead is a great indicator of where we want to go, where we want to be at and what we need to do to get there. My wish for our exam students is therefore that they give these exams the necessary attention, invest as best they can in preparing for each examination and then use the feedback as a take away to prepare even better for the final examination. When we heed to feedback, we can learn, grow and move ahead and become better in what we do.

I wish us all – students, teachers, colleagues and parents – a year of fruitful challenges and positive encounters that help growth and learning as well as connections and interactions that facilitate our communities’ strength and wellbeing.

Respectfully

Maggie Reiff
