Dear WIS Community,
We were recently profiled by Empathy Week for our video created by Ms Mandy and Ms Sheya, “What’s Your Spark?”. The intrinsic passion for learning, service, and action certainly burns brightly at WIS. Like the lighting of a magnesium flare, the final weeks of a school year always burn brightest. If you haven’t seen the video, take a look here.
Congratulations to our Grade 10 students for completing their MYP eAssessment examinations last week! The Grade 10 students had this week off, and will return to school May 6th onwards. The Grade 12 also finished their DP examinations and will celebrate their graduation on Saturday, May 24th at the River Crossing Lodge.
Our Outdoor Education programme has also had an exceptional recent few weeks, with two students obtaining their guide license and some close encounters with large mammals in the Okavango Delta among other trips.
Our Global Alliance exchange students have now returned home after another successful year of these exchanges, and the Alliance has now added the New International School of Thailand (NIST) to our list of exchange schools starting in 2025-26.
This week, the Grade 9 students also launched their MYP Personal Project. This several-month project gives students an opportunity to dive deep into a passion project of their own design and choosing.
Schools have a running joke that we pack as much as possible into the “100 days of May”. We certainly have much to celebrate!
Study Skills for End of Year Exams
Our Grades 6-9 are presently reviewing their year of learning in preparation for their end-of-year internal examinations. Preparing for such examinations can sometimes feel stressful for learners. I want to share some tips for how to study efficiently and effectively. These apply equally for the rest of us as well!
Choose a good spot: Your dedicated space for studying should be comfortable, quiet, free of distraction, and well lit. A chair is always better than a bed or couch.
Chunk tasks: Create a daily and weekly list of what you want to accomplish. Estimate the time it will take to complete each task. Then prioritize and make a plan to complete one task at a time. Consider using the highly efficient Pomodoro Technique to study and complete these tasks. https://pomofocus.io/
Start today: Don’t procrastinate and always ask for the help you need!
Have a great week. We will be open again on Monday 2nd June!
Sincerely,
Ethan
