In the past weeks, you will have received notifications from our Junior City Council (JCC) members Tapiwa and Klaudia to support the Junior City Council in their drive to support the Cancer Association branch CHICA (Children with Cancer).
“There can be no keener revelation of a society’s soul than the way in which it treats its children.” (Nelson Mandela)
The Junior City Council is a branch of the City of Windhoek, where representatives from high schools in Windhoek are invited to serve on the council for a time of two years.
Key initiatives of the JCC include:
The Child Safety Awareness Campaign - a vital project to educate families on online safety and combat the rise of substance abuse (hubbly-bubbly, alcohol), child rape, and gang violence.
The Elderly Outreach Programme - a compassionate campaign to raise funds and food parcels for elderly care homes, ensuring our seniors are not forgotten.
The Cancer Project – in partnership with the Cancer Association of Namibia, this initiative aims to rally schools to collect donations and provide hope for young people battling cancer.
Here we need your support!
Until Friday the 3rd of October, you can still drop off donations at the WIS Reception that our JCC Councillors can then present to their Council to be donated to CHICA.
Recently, the Junior City Council paid a courtesy visit to Her Worship, Mayor Ndeshihafela Larandja, to report on their remarkable progress. In just 109 days, these young leaders have initiated several key projects to build a safer and more inclusive Windhoek.
Her Worship, Mayor Larandja, was deeply impressed, commending the Junior Council's commitment. She offered her full support, particularly for the campaign against hubbly-bubbly, which she called a "monster" destroying young lives.
