Three of our talented Oryx swimmers recently represented Namibia at the XXI Africa Aquatics Zone IV Swimming and Open Water Championships in Eswatini, where Namibia emerged as overall champions. The competition brought together swimmers from across Southern Africa, including South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, Seychelles, and Mauritius.
Our students did us proud with incredible performances, personal bests, and podium finishes:
Scarlett McNamara put on a phenomenal display across multiple events, achieving an impressive string of personal bests. Her highlight came in the 1KM Open Water race in the 13-year category, where she stormed to Gold in 14:34. Scarlett also contributed to relay medals, including Silver in the 4x100m Freestyle and Bronze in the 4x100m Medley.
Patrick Durand made waves in the pool with standout swims in backstroke. He struck Gold in the 200m Backstroke, setting a new Zone IV Championship Record in the process! Patrick also added multiple medals to his tally, including Silver in the 200m Freestyle, 100m Butterfly, and 200m Individual Medley, as well as Bronze in the 100m Backstroke, 50m Backstroke, and 4x100m Freestyle Relay.
Gizelle Slinger impressed with her consistency and speed, swimming to several personal bests and claiming podium finishes. She earned Bronze in the 200m Backstroke and 100m Butterfly, while narrowly missing medals in other events with strong top-five finishes.
These remarkable results not only reflect the swimmers’ dedication and resilience but also highlight the strength of Namibian swimming on the regional stage. We are immensely proud of Scarlett, Patrick, and Gizelle for representing both Namibia and our school with excellence, perseverance, and sportsmanship.
