Meet Renata Ramos, our new and incoming MYP Portuguese and English as an Additional Language Teacher starting in August.

Welcome to WIS! What would you like us to know about you?

Hi! I’m Renata, an educator from Brazil with over a decade of experience in international schools, mainly within the IB framework. I’m passionate about language learning, inclusive education, and supporting students as they grow into confident communicators,  in both their home and additional languages. I’m moving to Windhoek with my husband and our three cats, and we’re truly excited for this new adventure!

Could you tell us a little about your philosophy of education?

I believe learning happens best when students feel safe, seen, and heard. As a language teacher, I focus on helping students express themselves and connect with the world around them at their own pace and in ways that make sense to them. I value inclusion, collaboration, and creating space for all voices in the classroom.

People often like to know their teacher’s academic background and professional experiences. What and where have you studied? Where have you worked?

I have a background in education and have pursued further studies in bilingual education and language acquisition. Over the past decade, I’ve worked in international schools, most recently at the American School of Belo Horizonte (EABH), supporting students across the PYP and MYP in both Portuguese and English language acquisition. I’ve also worked with early years and lower primary, always with a focus on creating inclusive, student-centered learning environments.

What do you do when you aren't teaching?

Outside the classroom, I enjoy a peaceful routine. I love reading, going for walks, driving around to relax, and listening to music. At home, I’m usually helping my husband in the kitchen. I'm not a great cook, but I’m a great cleaner! I also enjoy watching shows, playing with our three cats, and doing my best to keep up with some exercise. It’s a quiet life, but it makes me happy.

Why did you choose WIS?

WIS stood out to me for its sense of diversity, belonging, and global-mindedness. I felt that it was a place where students and teachers are truly encouraged to grow, connect, and be themselves. The opportunity to join such a welcoming and inspiring learning community felt like the right next step, both personally and professionally.

Is there anything else you’d like us to know about you?

I’m excited for this new chapter at WIS and grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a vibrant international community. And if you ever want to swap cat stories, I’ll be around.
