Meet Learnmore Mukando our new MYP Design Teacher

ree

Welcome to WIS! What would you like us to know about you?

I have been teaching for 14 years, and I am deeply committed to helping every student realise their full potential.

Could you tell us a little about your philosophy of education?

I believe that education should be learner-centered and inquiry based, with the teacher holding  high expectations for all students. I am greatly inspired by Rita Pierson in my teaching, and I believe that every child deserves a champion, which is an adult who will never give up on them because they understand the value of connection, insisting that students become the best they can possibly be.

People often like to know their teacher’s academic background and professional experiences. What and where have you studied? Where have you worked?

I hold a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Economics from the University of Zimbabwe, as well as a Master of Science degree in Banking and Financial Economics from the National University of Science and Technology.I have also completed my Master of Education degree in Advanced Teaching with the University of the People, a program closely affiliated with the International Baccalaureate. I have completed Teaching and Learning in a Global Context for both the MYP and DP through DePaul University, along with the International Baccalaureate Leadership Practice with the same institution. I am an Accredited Program Leader for Cambridge Professional Development Qualifications and a holder of  the International Baccalaureate Design Category 2 certificate.

I began my teaching career at Hilbright Science College in Zimbabwe, and my most recent teaching position in Zimbabwe was at Harare International School. I am currently deferring my studies in the Doctoral program of Global Educational Leadership with a focus on International Baccalaureate leadership practices with DePaul University but plan to resume in the near future.

What do you do when you aren't teaching?

I like traveling when I am not teaching and enjoy reading biographical novels. I also enjoy watching and playing soccer during my free time.

Why did you choose WIS?

I chose WIS because what I believe about teaching fits perfectly with the school’s mission. I’m passionate about helping every student reach their full potential in a place that values academic excellence, cultural diversity, and social responsibility. It’s exciting to be part of a community that encourages students to become independent thinkers with a global mindset.

Is there anything else you’d like us to know about you?

I like to live up to my name, and for me, design represents a world full of possibilities where learning happens every day. I believe that through thoughtful design, we can unlock new opportunities and inspire continuous growth. This mindset drives me to embrace challenges and keep discovering new ways to improve and learn.
