We are thrilled to share some truly extraordinary news from our Grade 3 classroom. One of our very own, Stefano Pezzani, has returned from Frankfurt, Germany, with a Gold Medal from the prestigious International German Math Olympiad!
A Journey of Persistence and Passion
Stefano’s journey began right here at school, alongside many of his peers who participated in the challenging first round. While the competition was rigorous, Stefano’s unique logical thinking and passion for problem-solving saw him qualify for the second online round in December.
Among thousands of participants worldwide, Stefano’s performance was so remarkable that he was invited to the Grand Final in Frankfurt this past April. As the only student from our school—and a proud representative of Namibia—he joined 600 of the most talented young mathematicians from across the globe.
The Gold Standard
In Frankfurt, Stefano faced a series of complex mathematical challenges designed to test creativity, logic, and grit. His hard work and dedication culminated in a Gold Medal, a testament to what can be achieved when natural curiosity meets a disciplined work ethic.
Looking Ahead: Nurturing Talent
Pooja and I, along with Stefano’s parents, are incredibly proud of his achievement. However, this is just the beginning of his journey. To support his continued growth, we are working together to ensure Stefano is extended into our mathematical program this semester. By providing him with advanced challenges and specialized support, we aim to nurture the extraordinary interest he has shown in the field.
"Stefano’s success is a shining example for all our students. It proves that with interest, hard work, and a community of support, the world is within our reach’’.
Looking back: Stefano’s reflections and feelings about the Math Olympiad in Frankfurt.
‘’Before going in, I felt nervous and excited. The supervisors gave me a pencil and paper. We had 60 min to answer 40 questions. It took me 40 min, actually 45 min if you include going through it. After the Math Olympiad, I was happy that I finished before some people. At the prize ceremony, I won a gold medal, and I felt proud.’’ Stefano, 9 years old
Congratulations, Stefano! You have made your family, your teachers, and your school incredibly proud.
