On Tuesday, 10 February, we will host three-way conferences in the Secondary School. This is an opportunity for students to discuss their progress in this academic year so far with their teachers and parents. We generally conduct these with students, preparing them to reflect on their progress using SMART goals.

Reflection on their current academic performance, students can determine what they can do to improve by deciding on goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and timely. Being intentional about their learning and progress is an excellent way to improve and deliberately focus on areas of growth in students’ learning.
When students meet with their teachers, it is important that they take the lead in the conversation and that they take responsibility for their growth and development. Being specific with their goals and deciding on goals that are attainable, i.e., realistic as well as relevant and connected to an action plan that has a date where these goals can be achieved, is a good way to monitor progress.
Looking back and seeing that these goals have been achieved, can be a driving force and motivate further, deeper goal setting that eventually leads to increased awareness of strengths and areas for growth. This in turn is motivating and rewarding.
We urge all families to sign up for these conferences and parents to be part of the process of their child(ren)'s academic success.
