In Grade 2, the students have recently completed their second unit of inquiry, focusing on the central idea: "Innovation and invention can revolutionize the way people live." Throughout this unit, the students explored various aspects, including historical inventions, current technology, and the potential for innovation to shape the future. As part of their learning, the students engaged in a recount as their chosen text type and composed letters to their family members, which will be mailed next week.
Moreover, the students eagerly participated in a Design Thinking Challenge, where they tackled a real-world problem using the design thinking process. They began by empathizing with the target audience, defining the problem, generating creative solutions through ideation, developing prototypes, and finally testing their designs. The students enthusiastically shared their ideas with the design teachers, Mr. JP and Ms. Jolene, who utilized these concepts to 3D print their innovative solutions. This collaborative journey not only enhanced the students' design-thinking skills but also emphasized the significance of creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration. The experience left a profound impact on the students, inspiring them to continue seeking innovative solutions in the future.
To culminate the unit, the students were given the opportunity to reflect on their learning and design their own inventions. They were encouraged to either reinvent existing objects or create something entirely new. During the end-of-unit learning celebration, the students showcased their imaginative "junk-box" inventions. Additionally, they conducted research on their chosen inventions and collaborated with Ms. Jolene to create a book that explores the evolution of inventions over time. We are delighted to share the book they have created, showcasing their dedication and hard work.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the teachers and parents who collaborated and supported us throughout this unit. Your involvement and encouragement have played a vital role in fostering a stimulating learning environment for the students.
