Outside Ms. Edwina’s classroom on the board, the above question asks everyone who passes by: What are you bringing to the table?
In a social institution like our school, this is a very important question. What do every one of us contribute to making our school a better place for all? How do I contribute to a school where everyone feels safe and supported? How do I actively engage in school events and every school day to contribute to this positive school culture that we all aspire to have?
We had a fantastic sports day on Wednesday. This was testimony of who we are as a WIS community. Students, parents, and teachers all gathered together at the Vegkop stadium to compete, but what was most rewarding to see, was
how everyone cheered each other on, cheered for those who were in front, but so much more lovely to see how those who gave their all to finish a long race were cheered on by others - of all ages - to complete and to pull through.
Parents helped as officials on the day. Thank you for your time and support! Quite a number of parents also supported their children and the day by attending the event and cheering athletes on. Grade 12s sold boerewors roles in the tuck shop to help raise money for the Learning Support Department (thank you to you too) and the Grade 10s made an effort to raise some funds for themselves.
All this was so inspiring to see and made us feel proud to be part of the WIS team! Thank you to the Physical Education team for all the energy and effort you invested to make this such a great event.
During our Grade 8 homeroom lesson on Tuesday, we did some activities on respect and what it means to be a WIS student. It was encouraging to see what our students mentioned as being key areas of WIS student life and their role in their class - what every one of them brings to their class and the school.
The key phrases and words mentioned in the activity are listed below and show how strongly our students believe in who we are as a community. If everyone brings this to the table, then the WIS community is a supportive and strong community of people from all walks of life who love to be at WIS for exactly these reasons:
Respectfully,
Maggie Reiff
