For the past three weeks, Paula has done her teaching practice at WIS. We already have to say goodbye, but want to appreciate her contribution to the English classes in the high school. She observed and taught in Mr. Dhruv and Ms. Swapna’s classes. We appreciate the time and effort that our teachers spend in ensuring that teacher interns get a good insight into the approaches and philosophy of WIS and we hope that this can have a positive impact on their careers when they start teaching.
The Memorandum of Understanding WIS has with UNAM to facilitate teaching practices at WIS is mutually beneficial and helps WIS give back to education in Namibia as well as allowing teacher students to experience a different approach to teaching and learning through our IB philosophy and approach.
Here is a summary from Paula about herself and her experience at WIS:
Hi WIS,
For those who I have not been formally introduced to over the past three weeks, my name is Paula Kaula ...
I was selected to conduct my Teaching Practice here at WIS (15 January - 2 February 2024), through an initiative taken between WIS and UNAM called the Understudy Programme, accommodating teachers in training.
I am a 3rd year Bachelor of Education (Honours) student, majoring in English and Afrikaans. I decided to challenge myself and add Mandarin as an elective in 2023 and have grown to love the language so much. This of course worked in my favour, as WIS doesn't offer Afrikaans.
I decided to take teaching as a profession after 11 years in the Security Sector, based in South Africa working for Bidvest Protea Coin. I received an offer in 2016 to return to Namibia and accepted it without hesitation. This move was made even sweeter when I met my husband, and we were blessed with our daughter. I have a very active and independent 5-year-old, who further encouraged my decision to become a teacher.
It is my final week here at WIS, and I would like to thank everyone for making me feel at home. To the teachers who allowed me to observe them and their students, sharing your expertise and accommodating me a very special thank you and appreciation to you all.
Paula Kaula
We wish Paula all the best for her future and are confident that she will contribute positively to the education sector in Namibia in the future.
