In the coming weeks, we have some interesting and exciting and important events scheduled for our secondary school students and their parents.
Progress Conferences
On the 21st of January we are kicking off the second semester with conferences to discuss student progress. The aim is to discuss progress so far this academic year and strategies and ways to ensure that progress is meaningful and that students have set goals for the remainder of this academic year that speak to our WIS Principles and students’ academic progress, ability and engagement.
Students will lead these conversations. It is therefore of utmost importance that students accompany their parents to the conferences and that they actively prepare for the conference in their different subjects.
The process to sign up for these conferences is as follows:
Sign up links are shared with parents on Monday, 13 January 2025
Parents have to sign up with the child’s name and surname and exact class (e.g. 7A).
These sign up links will be closed on Wednesday afternoon at 15:30. It will not be possible to sign up after the sign ups are closed.
Closing the sign ups will enable teachers and students to prepare thoroughly for the conferences so that the conversations can be meaningful and constructive.
Career Fairs
On the 21st of January between 14:00 and 15:00 we will welcome X2Y Career Guidance as well as Signa Aviation on campus to present different tertiary opportunities to our families. This event happens between the conference times to give parents and students the opportunity to attend conferences as well as these events. Further information in this regard will be shared next week.
On the 26th of March, WIS will again (like in the past 4 years, participate in the CIS Exploration Day Africa virtual university fair. This is an excellent opportunity for our students and their parents to connect with different universities from around the world in preparation for tertiary education.
New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) Accreditation
We are busy preparing for the start of our next accreditation cycle with NEASC.
From the 10th to the 14th of March a group of international educator peers will visit WIS to do a preparatory visit to determine our readiness to start the next cycle of NEASC accreditation. WIS has been accredited by NEASC since 2010 and every 5 years, another accreditation is done to re-accredit the school. During this process, the school undergoes a thorough reflection of our work and operations mainly focused on teaching and learning using the ACE Protocol from NEASC. Further information in this regard will also be shared via the Oryx in the coming weeks.
