Dear WIS Community,
This morning I had the pleasure of attending a delightful Lower Primary assembly where we came together to reflect on the importance of good communication in building positive relationships, both online and offline. Students from all lower primary classes have been exploring this topic, understanding how their words and actions can impact others in an increasingly digital world. They have been learning about common digital stressors, effective online communication, and how to choose the best medium for certain topics and conversations.
Junior Peer Counsellors
In other exciting news, our Grade 5 Junior Peer Counsellors (JPCs) had the opportunity to put their newly acquired skills into practice this week. During the second break, they spent time with our youngest students in EY 1 and 2, applying their listening skills and demonstrating kindness, approachability, warmth, and empathy to build trust. It was heartwarming to see the older students enjoying the activity just as much as the little ones.
PYP Exhibition
I also want to express my delight with the range of topics our students have been exploring during the PYP Exhibition. From investigating the relationship between mathematics and football skills to presenting to a school audience on managing anxiety, I am always amazed at how our community comes together to support students in their passions. The diversity of topics and the dedication our students have shown in taking action based on their learning is inspiring. I encourage everyone to check out their progress on our PYP Exhibition website and witness the incredible work our young learners are doing. I hope to see you on Monday during our PYP Exhibition evening. Thanks to all the parents who have helped organise!
Teaching and Learning Survey
On the school improvement front, I am thrilled with the number of responses we have received for the Teaching and Learning survey. However, we would still greatly appreciate more parents taking the time to fill it out. Your feedback and involvement is important in helping us understand how we can better serve our students. The next steps will involve analysing the data and reaching out to individuals personally to gain a deeper understanding of areas where we can improve. We also want to involve the community in formulating the steps we need to take to make the necessary enhancements. If you haven't already, please take a moment to complete the survey using this link.
As always, thank you for being a part of our wonderful WIS community.
Warmest regards,
Marcelle van Leenen | Primary School Principal
