Time flies - the end of Semester 1 and we’re opening the time capsules - at last

So much is going on all the time and before we know it, another year has passed, another semester is coming to an end and I am so excited that we can open our time capsules from 2009 and 2013 today.

Sealing a time capsule for 10 years is a big undertaking when it happens, but then everyday life comes in between and we tend to forget about the excitement something small like this brings.

As wave is driven by wave

And each, pursued, pursues the wave ahead,

So time flies on and follows, flies, and follows,

Always, forever and new.

What was before Is left behind; what never was is now;

And every passing moment is renewed.

Today, when our alumni unveil what is in the time capsules, will be an exciting opportunity to see what people thought and what was important 10 years ago and 15 years ago. I am certainly keen to see what is in those time capsules.

And then we will be reminiscing and maybe we’ll be inspired to add something to our 2024 time capsule that will make our community smile, reflect, wonder - in 2034.

Looking back on the past semester, there is a lot to celebrate and to be proud of. We have moved much further in the MYP in the past semester and have had a very positive consultant visit this past week guiding us, commending us and giving us great advice on our journey forward. We are proud to be a school that takes learning and our children’s educational journey seriously in a way that leads them to become citizens of the world who care for our planet and our people. All of us together can make a difference - but each individual can also make a difference if we learn to be compassionate, open-minded, caring and reflective.

Let us use this time of celebration and joy as an opportunity to reflect and look back, but also look forward to a new year, a new semester and new opportunities and new challenges that we can embrace, because we appreciate that growth happens when we consciously learn from challenges and approach our environment with compassion and an open mind.

I wish all our families an opportunity to connect, celebrate, have time for each other and rest.

With best wishes

Maggie Reiff
