At the end of the performance of The Whispers of the Namib Dunes which took place on the 17th of November, the audience applauded and the young performers on stage took a well-deserved bow. After all the joy, excitement and applause, I would like to thank the cast, crew, WIS teachers and parents for the countless hours of rehearsal dedicated to preparing for our show.
There are so many elements unseen by the audience that go into creating and putting on a show: prop and set design, artwork done for the show’s poster, the work of the light technician skillfully adjusting the stage lighting to capture the performer’s emotions, the research, drawing, designing and making of the costumes, the artful balancing of sound by the musicians, and the stage manager's efforts in fostering harmony among the performers and crew. Theatre really brings together many different art forms and a community - last Friday was an example of this.
The benefits of theatre education are far-reaching, impacting students of all ages and backgrounds. We are grateful for the opportunity to have theatre at WIS and witness the significant role it plays in helping young individuals cultivate a strong sense of self, fostering empathy and expanding their capacity to interpret and comprehend the world around them.
