Student Wellbeing: Launching Our New Social and Emotional Learning Programme

Dear Parents,

We are excited to announce the launch of our Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) programme at WIS in both the Primary and Secondary School. This initiative represents our commitment to nurturing the whole child - supporting their emotional growth, social skills, and overall well being.

What is SEL?

Social and Emotional Learning  also referred to as Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) is the process through which children and adults develop essential life skills, including:

  • Building healthy identities and self-awareness

  • Managing emotions effectively

  • Developing empathy and social awareness

  • Creating and maintaining positive relationships

  • Making responsible decisions

Our Approach

Working with the internationally recognized CASEL Framework, in the Primary School we have partnered with the PSHE Association to create a context-adapted curriculum that addresses physical and mental health, personal safety, relationship education, growing and changing, bullying prevention, media and digital literacy and community responsibility.

Partnership with Parents

We believe that successful SEL implementation requires strong collaboration between school and home. To ensure our programme meets the specific needs of our diverse community, we are actively seeking parent involvement in developing and refining our curriculum.

Your Voice Matters

We invite parents to join us for an upcoming Coffee Morning on December 2nd at 7.30 in the staffroom where we will share detailed information about the SEL curriculum, discuss implementation strategies and gather valuable input from our parent community. We are looking for one parent representative from each grade level to help shape this important initiative. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to your child's holistic development and our school community. Please look out for an invitation on Toddle where you can register your interest in attending.

Warm regards,

Marcelle van Leenen | Primary School Principal
