One unique thing about our school

Updated: May 15, 2023

Dear WIS Community,

One unique thing about our school with its PYP framework is the fact that we prioritise creating engaging learning experiences for our students. This helps them to love learning and become lifelong learners. This week was a good example! Here is a snapshot of some of the exciting learning that took place across grade levels:

Grade 5 students engaged in a lively debate about whether using ChatGPT for research is cheating or not. This activity helped our students develop their critical thinking and reasoning skills while exploring the benefits and potential drawbacks of using technology in research. Thanks to Ms. Jeannette and Ms. Meriam for thinking of this very appropriate and timely learning experience to help students with the PYP Exhibition!

Speaking of Grade 5, they are busy with the final stretch of the Exhibition and are bringing together their understanding of their explored topic in a creative synthesis. They have been spotted hanging up awareness posters to take action on their topic. It's all coming together nicely! Thanks to all Grade 5 teachers, the mentors, and Ms. Avril for guiding students in this process.

In Grade 3, students did a deep vocabulary study of Math vocabulary, making connections with other languages. This helped our students develop their language skills while enhancing their understanding of mathematical concepts.

Our Grade 2 students went on a field trip to Spar as part of their 'from field to table unit. During the trip, students had the opportunity to inquire about products going through different processes and observe firsthand how bread is made. This field trip allowed our students to make connections between what they learn in the classroom and the real-world context of the industry and gain a deeper appreciation for the value of food and the importance of making informed choices as a consumer.

Grade 2 also had a visit from our very own Ms. Tanya May, who gave a live demonstration of how bread is made. Afterward, students practiced procedural writing, which helped them to reinforce their understanding of the bread-making process. Check out their reflections below!

The unique approach of our school in creating engaging learning experiences for students really highlights how our teachers go above and beyond to ensure that our students develop a love for learning by designing activities and projects that are relevant, hands-on, and exciting.

Warm regards,
