When there is a partnership in education, we are able to support each other …
This past week, we had our annual conferences where students were able to reflect on their progress so far and look forward to the next term and what they aim to achieve from here.
Taking time to reflect and set goals is a worthwhile exercise since it gives all parties an opportunity to look intentionally at the way forward. It also gives learners the opportunity to have a voice in their own learning and take charge of their learning and growth.
At WIS we foster active student engagement. Although this is not always something that comes naturally, it is something that should be nurtured and supported. When we engage in our own learning, we make it so much more meaningful and we actively acquire skills that help us further along the way.
The partnership between school and home is of utmost importance in the growth and development of our children. When the education at home is reinforced by what a child learns in school, the process of learning becomes meaningful and effective and turns into long-lasting experiences that are transferable to real life. If learning can result in acquiring the skills for life, then our efforts - at home and in school - have achieved their goal. If we are able to reach children in their learning in a way that helps them reflect, plan, and set goals, their learning becomes a solid foundation for any next steps they will take in their lives and in their education.
When I walk through the school during our conferences and speak with teachers, students and parents, I can feel the positive energy that these conversations create. We also often then have the opportunity to be grateful for each other's support - the school is thankful for a positive partnership with parents and homes and parents are grateful for the opportunities that their children have when they can be engaged in learning that is meaningful to them and their future endeavours.
In the week where we celebrate World Teachers Day, we want to honour our teachers and educators, at home and in school and thank both teachers and parents for their efforts and dedication.
Happy World Teacher Day!
Thank you, teachers!
We wish you all a peaceful break - where you can take time for each other, recharge, and get ready for the next term.
Respectfully
Maggie Reiff
Secondary Principal
