News, Notes & Celebrations

Dear WIS Community,

A highlight of this week was definitely seeing the PYP in action during our Grade 1 Learning Celebration. Our young scientists demonstrated their understanding of how light and sound affect our daily experiences. Through their unit "How light and sound work," students explored the properties of these phenomena and how energy sources transform our lives. It was wonderful to see them confidently explaining their experiments, demonstrating how light and sound can be manipulated, and sharing their discoveries about different energy sources! Their enthusiasm and deep understanding showed just how powerful inquiry-based learning can be in developing knowledgeable, curious, and confident learners.

Friday morning's Grade 2 assembly was another shining example of the IB learner profile in action. Our articulate young presenters took us on a journey around the world, exploring diverse celebrations from different cultures. They drew connections between various festivities, highlighting the universal themes of kindness, giving, and community that unite us all. Through presentations, traditional music and dance, and thoughtful reflections, our Grade 2 students demonstrated a deep understanding of how celebrations, though unique in their expressions, reflect our shared human values. Their presentation embodied both our school's and the IB’s mission of fostering international-mindedness and the aim of developing caring, open-minded global citizens.

Semester Reports Release

We are excited to announce that your child's semester reports will be available next week through our new Toddle platform. These comprehensive digital reports align with the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) framework and provide detailed insights into your child's progress.

The reports will showcase:

  • Your child's development in key PYP elements (knowledge, concepts, skills, attitudes, and action)

  • Growth in learner profile attributes

  • Progress across transdisciplinary themes and subject areas

  • Personalized teacher comments

Three-Way Conferences

Date: Wednesday, December 4th

Following the release of reports, we will be holding our three-way conferences. These meetings provide a valuable opportunity for parents, students, and teachers to discuss progress and set goals together. Booking information has been sent separately.

As we approach the final weeks of this semester, we would like to thank you for your continued support of our school community.  Next week we will send out two noteworthy reflection pieces of the semester, our PYP Newsletter and our first WIS News Production- please look out for these. We look forward to celebrating achievements with you next week and wish all our families a wonderful lead-up to the holiday season.

Warmly,
