In this year´s two day Model United Nations Conference, 8 WIS students were present. We represented a variety of different countries ranging from Kiribati all the way to Iran and Russia. This year´s conference was focused on the topic of Advancing Gender Equality and Women Empowerment. There were several resolutions created to find a solution for this problem. These resolutions were created on the first day of the conference where we got to lobby and merge with other delegations. During lobbying and merging we created alliances and created resolutions. But that was not everything we did on the first day! We also engaged in fierce debates regarding the subtopics of this topic. In these debates we had to always represent the views and positions of our countries and not our own.
On the second day, we then got to present our resolutions. They were then scrutinized and debated upon by every nation. After amendments were made and the delegates had the opportunity to give for and against speeches we then went into the voting procedures. We did all of this 4 times as we debated upon 4 resolutions. Of those 4 resolutions 2 passed meaning that they were accepted with a two thirds majority. After we finished debating upon our resolutions we then went into the awards. Our school did exceptionally well as we were able to get at least one honorable mention in every single award. But we were also able to win some awards. The award of best speaker was given to me (delegate of India) and Ndapewa was able to get the award for best delegation alongside her partner Johannes(delegation of Haiti). All of these awards and honorable mentions allowed us to clinch the title of best school. This resulted in the exceptional performance of our school and all our delegates no matter if it was their 1st or 3rd time.
