During yesterday's Middle School Assembly, the MSSC (middle school student council) introduced themselves with the following speech written by Candice Rey and delivered by our Chairs, Jessica Damon and Nelao Robiati:
>> Good afternoon, My name is Nelao, my name is Jessica and my name is Candice.
Today, we have the privilege to introduce to you an integral part of our school community:
the Student Council. But first, let’s ask ourselves a simple yet essential question.
Why do we need a Student Council?
Why not just let the administration handle everything?
The answer is straightforward – every democracy thrives on the idea of representation. Just as our nation has representatives who express the will of the people, our school community too deserves a voice that truly understands and empathizes with its constituents. That voice, my friends, is the Student Council. So, what exactly do we do? At a glance, the Student Council is the bridge between the student body and the administration. We are elected by you, for you. Our primary purpose is to ensure that our school is not just an institution of learning but also a thriving ecosystem where every student feels heard, valued, and motivated. Here’s a closer look at our roles and responsibilities:
Voice of the Students: We gather feedback, concerns, and suggestions from the student body and convey them to the school administration. Your aspirations, challenges, and issues are our top priority.
Organizing Events: Whether it's school dances, spirit weeks, or talent shows, we are at the forefront, ensuring they run smoothly and are enjoyable for everyone.
Community Service: The Student Council leads various community service initiatives, instilling in us the importance of giving back and teaching us the values of compassion and service.
Promoting School Spirit: Through various events and campaigns, we aim to boost school morale and pride. We want every student to feel proud of being a part of this institution.
Conflict Resolution: When disputes arise, be it between students or between students and teachers, we act as mediators, helping to find common ground and solutions that work for all.
Improving School Facilities: If there's a need for better library resources, sports equipment, or any other facility, we push for it.
Our mission is to ensure that our school provides the best environment for learning and growth. While these are some of our key roles, it's essential to remember that the Student Council is a dynamic entity. We evolve and adapt according to the needs of the student body. We are always eager to hear new ideas, initiatives, or feedback.
To sum it up, the Student Council isn’t just a group of students; it’s an idea, a representation of democracy within our school walls. We are here to serve you, to be your voice, and to ensure our school is more than just classrooms and textbooks – it's a community, a family. So, engage with us, share with us, and together, let's make our school the best it can be.
Thank you. <<
