Welcome to WIS! What would you like us to know about you?
I was born and raised in vibrant Windhoek, where my passion for sports and learning took root. My educational journey began at Delta Primary School, fostering cherished memories. During those formative years, I discovered my love for squash, dedicating countless hours to honing my skills and competing at various levels. Transitioning to Delta High School, I continued my studies before a pivotal moment led me on an exciting path of change. I made the life-changing decision to move schools, embarking on a new adventure at Wynberg Girls' High School in Cape Town. Opting to pursue my education in South Africa transformed my life, opening doors to transformative experiences and opportunities. Immersing myself in a different educational landscape exposed me to diverse perspectives, cultures, and academic resources. This enriching environment broadened my horizons, deepened my global understanding, and shaped my personal and professional growth.
Could you tell us a little about your philosophy of education?
I believe in the holistic development of children, actively involving them in their own learning journey. As an educator, I provide guidance and support, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment. Peer-to-peer learning plays a vital role, encouraging active engagement and knowledge sharing. I prioritize essential life skills, character development, and emotional intelligence alongside academic excellence. Ultimately, my goal is to inspire and motivate students to reach their full potential, instilling in them a deep sense of curiosity, self-belief, and a lifelong passion for learning.
People often like to know their teacher’s academic background and professional experiences. What and where have you studied? Where have you worked?
In terms of my university academic background, I matriculated in 2015 and was accepted into Stellenbosch University. I pursued a degree in BSc Sports Science and ventured on a journey to expand my knowledge in the field, a decision that has shaped my professional path in a profound way. Upon completing my Undergraduate degree, I pursued an Honours degree in BSc (HONS) Sports Science (Kinderkinetics).
Following my university studies, I embarked on my professional journey as a Kinderkineticist at Dynamic Kids Kinetics in Windhoek. This experience allowed me to put my knowledge into practice and make a tangible impact on the early childhood development of the children I worked with. It was a valuable opportunity to witness the potential of children unfold and contribute to their growth.
Later on, I transitioned into the role of a Physical Education Teacher at St George's Diocesan School in Windhoek. This experience provided me with a broader perspective on education and allowed me to work closely with children on a daily basis. It was an incredibly fulfilling experience, as I had the privilege of assisting students in their overall development and fostering their passion for physical activity and well-being.
What do you do when you aren't teaching?
When I'm not teaching, I have a few key activities that bring me joy. Currently, I am focused on planning my wedding. When I’m not immersed in wedding preparations, I prioritize spending time with my family and friends, serving in my local church's Kids Ministry, and staying active by working out at the gym. I also appreciate moments of relaxation with my best friends, Netflix and my comfy couch. Additionally, I enjoy channeling my creativity into DIY projects to create educational tools and resources for early childhood development. These activities allow me to maintain a balanced and fulfilling lifestyle outside of work.
