Welcome to WIS! What would you like us to know about you?
Thank you! My life has been a series of random events that has brought me both sorrow and joy but never a dull moment. I love embracing the new but I am currently looking forward to building something familiar and long lasting.
Could you tell us a little about your philosophy of education?
I am a Social Reconstructionist. I believe that education can help spark changes in our society. Through education it is possible to make social reform making society more inclusive and equitable. My classes are focused with Diversity, Equity, Inclusivity and Social Justice in mind, trying to make sure that the students recognise the importance of an intersectional mindset.
People often like to know their teacher’s academic background and professional experiences. What and where have you studied? Where have you worked?
I grew up in Bombay but have lived in other parts of India and the World. I have degrees in Business Management, Journalism and International Relations and I am currently studying for my IPGCE from the University of Strathclyde. I have had several other jobs in the field of Journalism, Running a Kennel and working as an External Consultant. Teaching was rather fortuitous but has now become an integral part of my life. I believe my experiences outside the teaching world influence my classroom and my teaching. I have been teaching English Language and Literature since 2011 in India and now most recently in Khartoum, Sudan.
What do you do when you aren't teaching?
Travel! I want to see the world and all that it brings with it! I am fascinated by new cultures, new foods and new people. I also love to cook and am always trying new recipes!
Why did you choose WIS?
I don’t think I was done with Africa! Sudan had been my home for a year, but unfortunately it was cut short due to the war. I was looking at a way to come back to this beautiful continent and beautiful people.
