Welcome to WIS! What would you like us to know about you?
I’m so excited to be joining Windhoek International School as an MYP English teacher! Originally from South Africa, I’ve spent the past few years teaching in Dubai, and I’m looking forward to this new adventure in Namibia.
I love being outdoors and feel most at home in nature—whether it’s hiking, exploring new landscapes, or simply soaking up the fresh air. I’m a true water baby and will find any excuse to be near the ocean, whether it's swimming, snorkelling, or just enjoying the sound of the waves.
Creativity is a big part of who I am. I have a deep love for music and enjoy expressing myself through different creative outlets. Most of all, I’m passionate about teaching English and helping students develop their own voices through language and literature. I can’t wait to meet my students and become part of the WIS community!
Could you tell us a little about your philosophy of education?
I believe that education should spark curiosity and a lifelong love of learning. My goal as an English teacher is to create an environment where students develop a joy for reading and an enquiring mind. I want my students to be thinkers—questioning the world around them, exploring different perspectives, and always asking "why?" and "how?" rather than simply accepting answers as they are.
Literature and language are powerful tools for discovery, helping students not only understand the world but also express their own thoughts and ideas with confidence. I encourage creativity, discussion, and critical thinking in my classroom, and I hope to inspire students to become engaged, independent learners who approach challenges with curiosity and enthusiasm.
People often like to know their teacher’s academic background and professional experiences. What and where have you studied? Where have you worked?
I grew up in Port Elizabeth in South Africa and then completed a Bachelor of Education at Stellenbosch University followed by a Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing. I started my career as a Brand Coordinator for a large fashion retail chain in Cape Town which had stores nationally. My first teaching job was at Parklands College Preparatory in Cape Town where I was a Grade 4 & 5 class based teacher. After 3 years teaching, I wanted to gain some experience in the events/marketing industry so I interned at a small events company for a year and then one of my clients, Virgin Active SA offered me a job as their National Events Manager which took me all over SA and setting up branding for Virgin Active at events such as Iron Man SA, the Comrades Marathon and many others. I then moved to Plettenberg Bay to be closer to family and returned to the classroom at Plettenberg Bay Primary School where I stayed for 9 years, teaching from Grade 4-7 and was the Head of the Senior Department and the Head of English. In August 2023, I moved to Dubai in the UAE to teach English at GEMS World Academy where I am now the Assistant Director of Learning for English.
What do you do when you aren't teaching?
When I am not teaching, my son and I love being outdoors and going on little adventures and I will find any excuse to travel and explore. I also love reading and am always keen for a braai with friends and family!
Why did you choose WIS?
Returning to the continent of Africa has been a dream of mine, and I couldn't think of a better place to do so than Windhoek International School. I was drawn to WIS because of its strong sense of community and the welcoming, inclusive environment that so many have spoken about. Everyone I’ve met from Namibia has been incredibly warm and kind, which makes me even more excited to be part of this experience.
I’m really looking forward to becoming part of this vibrant community and contributing to a school that values inquiry, creativity, and a love for learning.
Is there anything else you’d like us to know about you?
I have a weakness for dark chocolate and a great cheesecake—both of which instantly make my day better. I also find pure joy in waking up to the sound and smell of the rain; there’s something so refreshing and peaceful about it.
