Welcome to WIS! What would you like us to know about you?
I am very much looking forward to joining WIS in January. My wife and I have lived and traveled the world and I’ve been educating for 20-plus years. Our home is Australia and we are the kind of people who are up for an adventure and getting out of our comfort zone.
Could you tell us a little about your philosophy of education?
I am a creative, collaborative, and successful educator who has high standards, an empathetic heart, and a fun-loving approach to leading learning in a classroom. I am excited to co-teach the Grade 2 classroom with Ms Beata Stephanus, who as Primary Mathematics Coordinator will then have the necessary release time to develop WIS's approach to teaching Mathematics in the Primary School. I'm equally excited to use my remaining full-time equivalency to support whatever special learning initiatives are identified in this coming semester!
People often like to know their teacher’s academic background and professional experiences. What and where have you studied? Where have you worked?
I gained my university degree and started my teaching career in Australia. I have then been fortunate to work and live in many different countries around the world including the USA, Canada, China, the UK, and recently Malaysia. I’ve taught all elementary grades. Away from the classroom, I have been an active coach in many different sports, organized school performances, taken countless children on camps and international experiences, and been part of many leadership teams.
What do you do when you aren't teaching?
Spending time with my wife and friends, laughing, traveling, and having a good time.
I enjoy watching and playing sports including basketball, golf, and hiking.
Why did you choose WIS?
I was initially looking for a school in Africa, as my brother lives in Cape Town, and was hoping to spend more time with him and his family. When I was approached to apply for the elementary teaching position, I was impressed by the leadership team and their vision for the school. Their philosophy aligned with my personal convictions regarding student development. Given my background and insights in education, I am enthusiastic about the potential to contribute towards the ongoing success of WIS, ensuring it remains a thriving hub for learning and growth.
