Maths Workshop for Teachers and Parents
Please mark your calendars for our monthly PYP curriculum coffee morning on the 3rd of March. Our Grade 5 teacher, Maria Douglas, will lead us through the WIS approach to Mathematics. This will be held in the Primary library.
Teachers are always learning, too! On Wednesday, our Grade 5 teacher Maria Douglas led a professional development session for Primary teachers and teaching assistants, focusing on mathematical progression in addition and subtraction. Drawing from her experience at last year's Mathematics symposium and insights from renowned Singapore mathematics specialist Peggy Zee, Mrs. Douglas shared effective strategies for teaching these fundamental operations across the Primary years. The workshop explored how children's understanding of addition and subtraction evolves throughout the Primary years, giving insight into better supporting students at each stage of their mathematics education.
This video is worth watching if you are interested in the progression of addition and subtraction in the Primary Years!
We are also happy to announce that Maria has offered to run this workshop for parents as well during our next monthly coffee morning on the 3rd of March at 7.30 in the Primary Library.
