WIS is starting to experiment with Lego Serious Play in Ms. Seodhna’s Personal, Social, Health Education for Grades 6. - 9.
As part of this semester’s unit on mental and social well-being, students had the chance to work with their hands and build solutions to problems presented in the workshop.
What is LEGO SERIOUS PLAY?
LEGO SERIOUS PLAY is an approach that supports participants in a process of creative thinking and problem-solving.
During a workshop, each participant is invited to build an answer/solution to a question with LEGO® bricks. Such a workshop is supported by a facilitator who uniquely combines a structured approach with play and storytelling.
Each participant is asked to put his / her contribution in the spotlight. This comes from one of the principles of LEGO SERIOUS PLAY, namely that every stakeholder can contribute to the solution.
Based on the use of seven unique LEGO SERIOUS PLAY techniques, questions of an individual, a group, or the company itself, will get closer to a solution, combined with a unique experience and surprising result.
The first week has been a huge hit with students. Many report feeling a sense of joy, calm, and focused engagement after an hour of Lego Serious Play.
Well done to our students for engaging in the lessons with a sense of openness, curiosity, and play.
Ms. Seodhna is seeking donations of Lego to continue this program in lessons. If any of our WIS families have Lego that they are no longer using, please consider reaching out to Ms. Seodhna (skeown@wis.edu.na) to donate Lego for our new Lego Serious Play program. Thank you to our WIS parent Peter Deselaers for the loan of this amazing Lego Serious Play facilitation kit for our mental health and social wellbeing unit. |
