JoMUN XXI Conference at AISJ, Johannesburg (28 - 30 Sept 2023)

This is what some of the participants had to say about their experiences;

Aqeela Nel - Chairperson of MUN Club

MUN allows us as students to break apart complex global problems and then collaboratively work together toward creating innovative solutions. Students are forced to bring forth the national perspectives of a country thus opening up our minds to understand the complexity of the issues. My last JOMUN experience was a memorable one where I bonded with students in my own grade as well as in other grade levels and made new connections with students holding the same interests as myself.

Zahra Ayoub

Nineteen (19) WIS students, accompanied by Ms. Nazeema and Mr. Bryant, attended the JoMUN conference that took place from the 28th to the 30th of September. This insightful trip allowed us to gain a deeper understanding of the landscape of decision-making and global affairs. During our time there, we engaged in debates on several global issues, including the decolonization of Southern Africa, migrant worker rights, the role of technology in drug trafficking, and support for the adoption of renewable energy in the least developed countries. The trip not only broadened our perspective on global politics but also enhanced our critical thinking, communication, research, and social skills. We collaborated with students from ten (10) southern African schools to present our perspectives on various issues, ultimately crafting a resolution that was shared with the rest of the committee and open to evaluation.

Tjijandjeua Mbetijha

Mun was an experience I'm entirely grateful to have participated in, I was able to meet various people from different backgrounds and learn about them while further widening my knowledge about the situations we were debating. I am forever grateful for being given the opportunity to participate.

Peya Shimuafeni

Overall, this trip provided an amazing opportunity for personal growth and a deeper understanding of global issues.

From going into the process not knowing what an amendment was, to voting for and against them. I can proudly say that I was able to experience the JoMUN XXI conference.

Not only was this an opportunity for me to gain insight into how the actual UN conferences work, but I was also able to participate and engage with different students from around the world.

Thank you to Ms. Nazeema and Mr. Matt for supporting us the whole trip. It was a great experience!
