As is the norm at the start of the term after a long break, our students and staff are exposed to new germs that can cause illness, ranging from colds and flu to stomach upsets. Across campus, we are experiencing this wave of absences right now. Thank you for keeping your unwell children at home should they be ill. Please don’t send a sick child to school. Parents and guardians will be called to fetch a child who has a temperature or has diarrhoea and or vomiting. If your contact details have recently changed, kindly let us know.
Hats and Water:
Even though we’ve had a couple of really cold starts to the day recently, Windhoek is in the throes of spring, as our beautiful flowering acacias all over town will testify. Spring is short-lived here, and then comes the heat of summer. Our primary students are expected to wear their hats when outdoors throughout the year, but now it has become especially important. Please ensure that your child has a wide–brimmed hat (baseball caps are not adequate as the neck is exposed) marked with the name on the inside for easy return should it be left somewhere.
Even though I do keep sunblock in the Health Room, I’d like to encourage parents to provide children with a tube of sunblock to keep in their bags or, in the case of our littlies, by the teacher, should they have an outdoor activity after school.
The water at school is safe to drink and all classrooms have water outlets. If you prefer your child to drink filtered water please send in enough bottled water to last the day. Teachers help to ensure that our students drink water throughout the day.
