Choose Kindness

We started this academic year off with a very positive and kind week. Speaking to our students, our teachers, and parents, the general feedback was that they are happy to be back and that it feels “good” to be back. I loved talking to students and hearing about their holidays, but also about the first days of school. It sounds like it is going to be a positive and memorable year for us.

Our new teachers in secondary school, Mr. Derrek Berkompass (Instructional Coach and EAL support) Ms. Nazeema Rattansi (MYP Science and IGCSE and IBDP Biology), Dr. Philip Saker (MYP Mathematics and Sciences teacher) and Mr. Dhruv Tikka (MYP English teacher and CAS Coordinator) all bring great energy and experiences to WIS. We welcome them to school and look forward to them being part of our WIS family.

This year, we want to let KINDNESS be our focus in what we do with and for each other inside and outside of the classroom. When we spend a bit of time each day with intentional acts of kindness, we can make quite a difference in someone’s life as well as in the environment that we are in. Let’s prioritise kindness. This also links to our WIS Principles and our Priorities for this year. Keeping these as a focus can be a guide to us working together and supporting each other so that we can all bring out the best in ourselves as well as each other and our community.

Purpose - People - Excellence - Ownership - Creativity - Sustainability

I would like to share a video I showed in our first assembly and some food for thought for us all to reminisce on: Teach your child to care.

With good wishes for a successful 2023-2024 academic year.
