Dear WIS Community
We had an exceptional turnout at our recent Primary Years Programme (PYP) Parent Workshop. The enthusiastic participation of so many parents demonstrated our community's strong commitment to understanding and supporting their children's educational journey.
The workshop was specifically designed to demystify the PYP framework and show how it aligns with the International Baccalaureate's mission to "develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect."
Through hands-on activities and interactive sessions that mirrored their children's learning experiences in class, parents gained insights into:
How concept-based inquiry drives learning
The role of transdisciplinary themes in connecting different subjects
How the Learner Profile attributes are developed
The importance of feedback and reflection
One of the workshop's key achievements was helping parents understand the thoughtful planning that goes into creating meaningful learning experiences.
Research consistently shows that parent involvement significantly impacts student achievement. When parents understand and engage with their children's learning approach, it creates a powerful bridge between home and school, reinforcing the learning process and helping students thrive.
A huge thanks to all parents who participated in this workshop. Your engagement and enthusiasm make our educational community stronger. Special appreciation goes to our dedicated teaching team, Ms Beata, Ms Jenna, Ms Kaye and Ms Sinead who made this workshop possible through their expertise and commitment to excellence.
We will be organising various workshops throughout the year on various aspects of our programme. They take place every first Monday of the month and are on the events calendar as PYP Coffee Morning. The next one will be about our Personal, Social, Health Education programme on the 2nd of December.
If you have suggestions for these workshops, something you would like to explore further or learn about, please let us know- we are open to your ideas!
Warmly,
Marcelle van Leenen | Primary School Principal
