As we finish this calendar year and the first semester of the academic year 2024-2025 there is much reason to be grateful and look back on a semester that was busy, but filled with great achievements. We now are an official MYP school and offer three IB programmes. This is a remarkable achievement - thank you to our staff and everyone involved in making this a reality.
Our students worked hard to learn and grow. We were able to participate in several events outside of school as well where our students could contribute to further personal growth in their respective lives - JoMUN, PAYNamibia, NamMUN, swimming competitions and a great Orange River trip for the Grade 9s.
When we look back on the last semester, there is much reason to be proud and grateful. In a world that is increasingly divided and a planet that is at risk, what we do here at WIS and what our kids learn, is critical to ensure that this young generation can one day live in a more peaceful world and that they are actively learning to be engaged in making our planet “survive”. There is so much that needs to be done. But, with the education we can deliver to our kids in a country that is safe and peaceful, we are able to create an environment for learning and growth that is healthy and positive.
As we look ahead to the second semester and 2025, let us continue but also intensify our quest for an excellent learning environment, an education that is progressive and looking ahead. Let us continue to strive for healthy relationships in our community - between students themselves, between the school and home, between students and teachers and between our WIS community and the broader community. We are fortunate to be able to provide an education and an environment that is conducive to positive learning and growth. Let us not take this for granted, but be mindful of the privilege this gives us in the bigger scheme of things - to be able to make a difference - to be able to make an impact.
In this time where we take a break, let us reflect on what was and look ahead to how this can be consolidated and strengthened in the coming semester as well as the coming year.
We wish all our families a peaceful and rejuvenating break. May you be safe and have time for each other and the things you love to do.
