An international community of learners

In the spirit of our motto, it is fitting to celebrate the many different opportunities all our community members have to celebrate our diversity and our involvement in the wider international community.

This week, a group of WIS teachers is attending the annual AISA (Association of International Schools in Africa) Conference in Cape Town. The theme of the conference this year, again, very fitting for our current fast paced world: Sawubona, Simunye: I see you, We are one. Our colleagues will be attending different presentations and deep dive sessions around the theme of wellbeing. This conference is always an opportunity for deep, enriching experiences, making connections and learning from peers and experts. It is an opportunity to continue learning.

Next week, our Model United Nations students will be participating in the Model United Nations Namibia (MUNNAM) conference in Windhoek. This is another great opportunity for our students to connect with other high school students from Namibia and engage in public speaking and research about countries as delegates representing these different countries.

From the 4th to the 6th of November, Ms. Reiff will be participating in the BMI/Times Higher Education Forum and Workshop for International Schools in Africa. This is an opportunity to meet university admissions officers and participate in the Counsellor Accreditation Program (THE CAP) facilitated by BMI and Times Higher Education.

All these events are enriching opportunities for our staff and students to connect with international colleagues and peers and learn about current trends in education and in higher education which in return then gives us the opportunity to be intentional and mindful about our education here at Windhoek International School.

Through the various extra-curricular activities our students participate in like excursions, MUN, exchanges, they also get the opportunity to connect with peers and acquire essential skills that equip them for their lives to be able to confidently interact with people from diverse backgrounds and be able to play a role in making humanity more caring and kind and our planet a better more sustainable place.

In a world that is increasingly interconnected and globalised, it is a duty as well as an opportunity to educate young people to be mindful and respectful of the diverse communities they grow up in.
