I am thrilled to share some fantastic news and express my pride in our school. Last weekend, a total of eighteen WIS students participated in the Pukewitz Interschool Swimming Gala. This event brought together 22 schools from Windhoek, Swakopmund, and Oranjemund, making it a highly competitive interschool gathering.
Our students showcased their skills in various age groups, including both Primary and Secondary divisions, competing in different strokes and relays. I am pleased to announce the impressive results achieved by our swimmers:
In the Women's Primary division, our team secured a commendable 7th place.
In the Men's Primary division, our team achieved a respectable 8th place.
Moving on to the Women's Secondary division, our team achieved an outstanding 2nd place.
In the Men's Secondary division, our team demonstrated great effort and finished in 8th place.
When the combined results of the Primary school swimmers were tallied, we secured the 8th position.
Similarly, in the Secondary school category, our combined team secured an impressive 2nd place.
I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all the swimmers for their exceptional performances and for representing our school with pride. Your dedication and hard work have clearly paid off. I had the opportunity to speak with one of our senior swimmers, and she shared her thoughts on the gala. She said, "I always look forward to the Pupkewitz Gala, but this year’s edition was particularly well-organised and fun. It was great to be part of such a good WIS team. It is even more enjoyable to race in such great conditions. Thank you to Ms. Beata and the PE team for making this possible for us, it is always a pleasure to represent our school at the Pupkewitz Gala!"- Salomé Rey,
I would also like to express my gratitude to our teachers, and parents for their unwavering support and encouragement throughout the preparation and during the event. Your guidance and commitment have played a crucial role in our students' achievements.
Additionally, I would like to highlight the efforts of our Grade 11 CAS students, Salomé Ray, Alweendo (Ali) Iyambo, Christian Philip, and Weya Kalili who volunteered to support the sports department with various organizational tasks.
These dedicated students took on multiple roles, including swimming in the competition, acting as timekeepers, and line organizers, and most importantly, being an integral part of the team. Their commitment and willingness to assist in different capacities exemplify the spirit of teamwork and community engagement that we strive to foster at our school.
Lastly, I want to acknowledge and thank Robiati Distribution for their sponsorship of power drinks and energy bars, as well as Westlane Spar for their generous support with water.
Congratulations once again to all the participants, and thank you to everyone involved in making this gala a memorable and successful event.
We are proud of each and every one of our swimmers, as well as the volunteers who selflessly supported the event.
Sincerely,
Swimming Fan!
