It's an exciting time in Grade 2 as students delve into the exploration of various celebrations, traditions, and beliefs. This opportunity allows them to learn about different cultures and foster a sense of open-mindedness, opinion-sharing, and appreciation for others. It's important for our young learners to understand that it's okay for celebrations to differ from what they experience at home. Embracing these differences helps develop respect for diverse beliefs and celebrations.
To enhance their understanding, students have been reading stories, exploring different attire, and investigating cultural foods associated with these celebrations. The aim is to create an environment where we learn from one another and embrace new and unfamiliar concepts.
Recently, Grade 2 students had a chance to learn about Rosh Hashanah from the Jewish community at WIS. Additionally, a parent will be visiting to discuss Hanukkah, which begins on December 7th. Thanksgiving also presents an excellent occasion to bring the community together and express gratitude for the blessings in our lives, such as living in a peaceful country, attending a great school, and having food and clothing. It's a reminder that not everyone worldwide will be able to celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa this year.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Ms. Jeannette for graciously sharing her traditions and insights about Thanksgiving. Her contribution has enriched our learning journey and provided us with a deeper understanding of this special holiday. We are grateful for her willingness to share her knowledge and experiences, as it has allowed us to appreciate the diversity of celebrations even further.
On behalf of the Grade 2 team and students, we extend warm wishes for a Happy Thanksgiving to our American families and to those who share in these traditions.
You are welcome to join us on December 8th, the last day of school, for our end-of-unit celebrations. The Grade 2 students will express their understanding of their own culture, traditions, and beliefs through various creative mediums. We hope to see you there!
