Kindergarten and Pre-Primary
At Windhoek International School (WIS), we prioritise the crucial early years of education, laying the foundation for lifelong learning. Backed by research from the Centre on the Developing Child at Harvard University, we understand that the preschool years are pivotal for children to reach their full potential.
At WIS, our Nursery and Pre-Primary programs are aligned with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP), providing a thoughtfully designed approach for children aged 3 to 5. Developed by the IB, renowned for its educational frameworks, including the Middle Years, Career-related, and Diploma Programmes which are offered at WIS, the PYP in early years settings offers stimulating, supportive interactions that cater to each child's unique development.
In our dynamic learning environments, children engage in holistic learning experiences that integrate socio-emotional, physical, and cognitive development through play, discovery, and exploration. Parents appreciate the individualised approach of the PYP, recognizing that children develop at different rates. Research highlights the effectiveness of the IB's PYP in early years settings, showing significant development in literacy skills, school readiness, and learning skills among participating children.
Kindergarten (Ages 3-4): Safe. Loved. Play-based. Ready.
Our Nursery program at Windhoek International School (WIS) is designed to provide a nurturing and stimulating environment where children aged 3 to 4 can thrive. With a focus on safety, love, and play-based learning, we ensure that each child feels secure and valued as they embark on their educational journey. Our flexible enrollment options allow parents to choose between 2 to 5 days per week, providing the flexibility needed to accommodate busy schedules.
Pre-Primary 1 (Ages 4-5): Exploring. Building a Solid Foundation. Learning to Learn.
At WIS, our Pre-Primary 2 program focuses on fostering exploration, building a solid foundation, and nurturing a love for learning in children aged 4 to 5. Our comprehensive curriculum encompasses language, mathematics, creativity, physical development, and social-emotional skills, ensuring that every aspect of your child's development is supported and nurtured. Through engaging activities and hands-on experiences, children are encouraged to explore, question, and discover, laying the groundwork for future academic success.
Pre-Primary 2/3 (Ages 5-6): Inquiring. Ready.
Designed for children aged 5 to 6, this program focuses on fostering inquiry, critical thinking, and readiness for the next stage of their educational journey. Through a holistic approach to learning and engaging PYP Units of Inquiry, children are encouraged to inquire, explore, and make connections across various subject areas. Our teachers support each child's individual development, ensuring that they are well-prepared and confident as they transition into primary school. We also offer a transition class (Pre-Primary 4) for learners who need an extra year in the Pre Primary programme.
