Windhoek International School Celebrates Record-Breaking 2024 IGCSE Results

Updated: Sep 13

Windhoek, Namibia – 13 August 2024: Cambridge released its global June 2024 IGCSE results on Tuesday, and Windhoek International School (WIS) announced that the 2024 May/June IGCSE examination results were the best in the school's 34-year history. An impressive 81% of all grades achieved by WIS students were between a C and A*, with the cohort attaining the schools record-setting number of A* and A grades and 100% of students achieving at least one C and above.

Angelina Costa, the IGCSE Coordinator at WIS, credited the school's success to its outstanding faculty. "Our teachers are experts in their subjects, but most importantly they are deeply committed to the well-being and growth of every student. In other words, WIS teachers know WIS kids and our students were able to achieve their best."

The WIS Educational Director Mr Ethan Van Drunen echoed this sentiment, highlighting the effectiveness of WIS’s educational approach. "These results are a testament to what happens when a student-centered approach to teaching is combined with passionate subject teachers, caring homeroom teachers, and a solid system of support. It’s nice to have external validation of the excellence we witness daily at WIS."

Looking to the future, Margarete Reiff, the WIS High School Principal and College Counsellor, expressed excitement about the next chapter for these students. "This cohort will now proceed into WIS Grades 11 and 12, to become the largest IB Diploma Programme cohort in our school's history. At WIS, we prepare students for success at any university or college of their choice."

Van Drunen also noted the global nature of the WIS community, stating, "We have students from 58 countries attending WIS this school year. The world comes to WIS, and results like these pave the way for our alumni to go on to achieve success anywhere in the world."

The IGCSE results come on the heels of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) results released during the school holiday in July, in which the school’s graduating Class of 2024 achieved IB Diploma marks which were at or higher than predicted and in line with the schoolś historically high averages - including a high score of 42 out of 45 possible points.

The school’s IB Diploma Programme Coordinator Mr Rick Fitzpatrick said, “It was pleasing to see another successful round of IBDP examinations, and I am looking forward to welcoming these successful IGCSE students into the IB Diploma Programme.”

Windhoek International School has a school year which begins in August and ends in June, with admissions taking place on a rolling basis.
