Reading and Writing at WIS

We live in a written world. Every day we encounter text in countless forms—street signs, text messages, work correspondence, literature, and more. Writing is far more than placing words on a page; it is a way of entertaining, thinking, reflecting, growing, innovating, and solving problems.

My name is Carola Beyer, and I am delighted to take on the role as the new secondary school librarian and writing centre coordinator. My passion for reading and writing has led me to this role, and I am eager to inspire both students and parents to become actively involved in the library and writing centre.

In today’s world, the ability to read and write with skill and understanding has never been more important. We are surrounded by information, and the capacity to interpret it thoughtfully is essential to a functioning society. The school library is at the heart of this process, serving as a space where young people learn, explore, and collaborate. My vision is to make the WIS library once again a vibrant hub of learning, creativity, and innovation.

As librarian, I aim to foster a love of reading that supports a well-rounded education—reading not only for study and research, but also for the pure pleasure of it.

In my role as writing centre coordinator, I will provide one-on-one writing support, host engaging workshops for students, and offer training sessions for teachers. Together, these initiatives will create a space where the written word is celebrated and where every learner can grow in confidence and skill.
