Meet Vivian Wafula our new and incoming MYP English Teacher starting in August

Welcome to WIS! What would you like us to know about you?

I'm enthusiastic about life, about teaching, about people. Beyond that, I'd rather you get to know me than have me describe myself. Words only go so far.

Could you tell us a little about your philosophy of education?

Inclusive to all, exclusive to none. I believe every child can learn, what changes is the environment, the approach, and the relationship between teacher and student. Get those right, and the rest tends to follow.

People often like to know their teacher’s academic background and professional experiences. What and where have you studied? Where have you worked?

I hold a Teaching Degree and have spent my career teaching internationally, working with learners from many different backgrounds and contexts. That experience has sharpened my instinct for reaching students where they actually are, not where you assume they should be. I bring extensive IB experience with formal MYP training, and hold both IELTS and TEFL certifications.

What do you do when you aren't teaching?

Reading, swimming, tennis and whenever I get the chance, exploring parks and green spaces. A good book, some movement and fresh air and I'm ready for anything the week throws at me.

Why did you choose WIS?

WIS is the only IB school in Namibia, which already says something about what this community values. A student body from 45 countries, all in one place as an English teacher, that's exactly

the kind of room I want to be in.

Is there anything else you’d like us to know about you?

I show up every day. My students will always know I'm in their corner, not just for the work but for the bigger picture of who they're becoming.
