Handwriting Without Tears – Building Strong Foundations for Lifelong Writing

ree

At WIS, we are committed to equipping our students with the essential skills they need to thrive academically and beyond. This year, we are thrilled to launch the Handwriting Without Tears programme, which will now be an integral part of our curriculum every year.

To begin, the programme will run from Pre-Primary 1 through Grade 3, and over the next two years, it will expand to include Grades 4 and 5. Handwriting Without Tears is a proven, research-based approach that uses fun, multi-sensory strategies to help children develop fine motor skills, letter formation, and writing fluency. By breaking handwriting into manageable steps, it not only improves penmanship but also allows children to focus on expressing their ideas with clarity and confidence.

Handwriting is a vital life skill that touches every area of learning. When children write comfortably and efficiently, their cognitive energy can go into thinking and creating rather than struggling with letter formation. This programme helps ensure those foundations are strong, setting students up for future success.

I also want to recognise and thank our teachers, who continue to show a remarkable commitment to professional growth. Their willingness to embrace new initiatives like this speaks to their passion for refining their craft and providing the very best education for your children.

We invite our parents to join us on this journey. Ask your children about what they are learning, celebrate their progress, and encourage them to take pride in their handwriting. Together, we can build a community that values and nurtures this important skill.
